TESSERA Project

TESSERA First Online Workshop

On April 30, 2025, the TESSERA Project successfully hosted its first online Workshop, bringing together over 50 participants, with representatives primarily from Law Enforcement Agencies across Europe (including Spain, Italy, Greece, Romania, Bulgaria, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, and the United Kingdom), as well as European Commission policymakers and security experts. The workshop served as a critical milestone in the project’s efforts towards high-quality large-scale trusted and shareable datasets based on identified operational use cases and associated AI technologies, thus supporting the vision to establish a robust European Security Data Space for Innovation (EU SDSI), providing a platform for meaningful engagement with end-users in the security domain.

The two-and-a-half-hour workshop offered a comprehensive presentation of TESSERA’s work to date, its objectives, and the path forward. The event began with an introduction to the evolving landscape of European Data Spaces, highlighting how the EU SDSI fits within the broader European policy context. This was followed by a detailed overview of TESSERA’s use cases and associated AI technologies, which have been designed to reflect the operational realities and needs of law enforcement and security practitioners.

The workshop also addressed the technical dimensions of mapping the families of security-oriented datasets and the enabling technologies with the goal to facilitate secure, interoperable, and privacy-compliant data sharing. A key part of the discussion focused on assessing data quality and ensuring compliance with legal and ethical standards, essential aspects in any security-focused data initiative.

Following the workshop, an interactive questionnaire was distributed to collect structured feedback, identify operational needs, and gain deeper insights grounded in their professional expertise. This valuable input will play a key role in shaping and fine-tuning the TESSERA project’s ongoing development, ensuring that its outcomes are aligned with real-world requirements and end-user expectations.

TESSERA’s first online Workshop marks a significant step towards building the datasets for a trusted, user-driven, and innovation-oriented European Security Data Space. The project team expresses sincere appreciation for the active participation and valuable contributions of all attendees, highlighting the importance of continued engagement as the project moves forward.
