TESSERA Project's Participation in the LAGO Workshop in Brussels

On February 25, 2025, TESSERA participated in the LAGO Workshop in Brussels under the theme “Building a Trusted Research Data Ecosystem for FCT Research”. The LAGO workshop brought together Law Enforcement Agencies, Researchers, Policymakers, and Industry experts to discuss secure and ethical research data governance in the Fight against Crime and Terrorism (FCT) domain. Legal compliance, sustainability, and responsible data governance were the key topics of discussion with their utilisation in supporting security-related research and innovation. Apart from the LAGO consortium members, relevant EU funded projects participated; STARLIGHT, MultiRATE, and TESSERA projects joined the discussions on barriers, governance models, and solutions for developing a trusted Research Data Ecosystem (RDE) that facilitate secure and privacy-preserving research collaboration.

TESSERA’s contribution centered around a dynamic panel discussion on the critical “data issue” in research. Theodora Tsikrika from CERTH, deputy Project Coordinator, shared valuable insights on TESSERA’s role in supporting data sharing/data exchange for EU security research, addressing key challenges within the research data ecosystem, and exploring ways to enhance the LAGO Research Data Ecosystem to provide added value to the FCT research community.

Following the panel discussion, the workshop focused on Sustainability Model Analysis and a discussion of Sustainability approaches for LAGO with representatives from DG-Home, LAGO, STARLIGHT and EMPACT. The workshop wrapped up with one more panel discussion themed “From Data to Deployment: example of applied research of AI”.

TESSERA’s participation in the LAGO Workshop was an opportunity to contribute to a broader discussion on data governance in security research, knowledge sharing and synergies creation.
